Signpost is a charity that works to improve the lives of people from disadvantaged communities in Essex.
We provide free, person-centred services to empower individuals and support them to overcome their barriers to employment. Our services include advice, training, and access to high-quality IT equipment, as well as a warm welcome, respect, and a listening ear.
We are distinct from statutory provision in that we use empowerment as a mechanism of change. We also have referral networks with partner organisations, to provide a holistic service to our beneficiaries. Our client-led approach ensures that we focus on the individual’s needs and allow their experience and expertise to help others.

We offer a variety of core services, all of which are completely free to the beneficiary. Our services have been carefully crafted over the years to ensure that individuals have the best chance of finding and keeping work. With Signpost, you can obtain the skills and knowledge needed to make a successful transition into the job market.
Signpost provides free, impartial support to individuals who want to improve their skills, gain qualifications or get back into work. We provide a range of services to help people reach their full potential and progress in their career. Our client-centred approach ensures that our advice is tailored to each individual, addressing their unique needs and helping them to build a brighter future. Our core services include career advice, CV writing, job search, interview skills and employment support. We also provide access to a wide range of training and qualifications, as well as providing in-work support to those already in employment. We are proud to empower people to take control of their own career paths and to help them achieve their goals.
Signpost Centres
In Essex, many individuals are facing the challenging realities of unemployment and social deprivation. Without access to a stable job, they are unable to cope with the financial burden of living in this area. This leads to feelings of alienation and isolation, with many having to give up on their dreams of finding employment and providing for their family. By supporting these vulnerable individuals, we can help them regain their self-confidence and make their dreams a reality. By offering access to career guidance, training and job opportunities, we can help break the cycle of poverty and social exclusion in Essex. Let’s make a difference and give these individuals a chance to succeed.
Signpost is a charity dedicated to helping people find employment in Essex. Our goal is to provide individuals with the tools and resources necessary to move forward and reach their career goals. We are passionate about helping people from all walks of life, as we understand the importance of having a job to build self-respect, confidence, and purpose in life. We also recognize the importance of employment in increasing social mobility and raising aspirations in families and communities. Signpost is a highly respected charity that has been providing support and guidance to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds for over 26 years. Our three advice centres, located in Tendring, Colchester and Basildon, are based in some of the most deprived areas of Essex. We are deeply embedded in our local communities, and strive to build strong, long-lasting relationships with those we serve. At our advice centres, our team offers a wide range of services. We provide practical resources such as IT equipment, training and advice, but just as importantly, we offer a welcoming, respectful and supportive environment. Our aim is to empower those we work with to break out of poverty and improve their life prospects.
What makes us different
Signpost is a unique organization in Essex that is client-led and focuses on the individual. We use empowerment as our primary mechanism for change, and employability is the focus of our conversations with people. We help our beneficiaries deal with a variety of issues beyond unemployment, such as mental health, housing, debt and domestic violence. To provide a holistic service, we have partnered with other organizations and have a referral network. Clients who have been helped often stay with Signpost as volunteers, which furthers their own empowerment by allowing them to use their experience to assist others.
